During Deacon Williams' term he became very ill and passed and his wife had to serve as the first woman deacon of the church. Also, at this time Rev. Ramsey decided to go to Los Angeles, California with his wife. He informed the church he knew as a minister, Rev. M.P. McCray who along with his members would unite with our church until he returned. Through this union and, under the leadership of Deacon Palmer, Sunday school was held in the morning. He thought that maybe, the people in the n neighborhood who had children would let them come and worship with us. Rev. McCray was an educated man and could easily gain confidence of the people and from that time on the church membership increased.
The first auxiliary to be organized was the Mission Sisters. The minutes dated October 18, 1914, were the first minutes of the auxiliary. As a result of the increase in membership, the church soon relocated to 320 Merrtis Avenue. The increase in membership gave birth to another auxiliary, the Mother Board, which was organized by Mother Waldo Hattem.
Rev. McCray passed and Brother Pearce was ordained as Pastor. After Rev. Pearce passed the church had many leaders: Rev. E.W. Jones served 7 years, Rev. W.M. Smith short term, Rev. Jordan served 5 years, Rev. J.J. Norwood, Rev. Hutchinson, Rev. W.M. Henderson served 12 years, Rev. Emanuel Luther Thomas Sr. who served out the rest of Rev. Henderson's term and his own term of 31 years, Rev. Booker T. Moore served 3 years.
Under the leadership of Rev. E.L. Thomas, the church grew mightily and relocated in 1969 to its present location. Also under his leadership twenty (20) auxiliaries and specialty groups were formed. He was especially proud of the specialty days such as: Women's Day, Men's Day, and Youth Day. He was also very proud of the first completed church office with secretaries and files in an office, which was organized in 1986.
After the until the untimely death of Rev. E.L. Thomas Sr., our pioneer, who brought us 31 years this far by faith ,the deacons immediately called Rev. Marion Billiups, a very close and trusted friend to rev. Thomas who was also present at his death, to oversee and pastor the church. He immediately stepped in and the very next day performed a wedding ceremony. He served faithfully until we could complete our search for a permanent pastor.
The church then called Rev. Booker T. Moore Jr., to pastor our church on, March 1, 1989. He pastored our church until the second Sunday in April 1992. The church was again without a pastor, but the Lord continued to keep us in his hands. Deacon tom Gross sr., Chairman of the Board of Deacons held the church together until we could search for another pastor.
January 6, 1993 we appointed Rev. Robert S. Welch to pastor our church. On February 7, 1993, Rev and Mrs. Welch along with their two sons, joined our church family for the first time.
Under his ministry, we have continued to grow closer to the Lord. Together we have reestablished the old units of the church, combined and formed new choirs, and ministries. In later years we purchased the property next door to the church (2003).Our new parking lot went under construction (2004). Thank GOD for the Chambers Family for the generous donation to purchase our new church sign. The parking lot was completed (2005). Kitchen and windows renovation completed (2005). Reorganization of Children's Church (2006). Pastor's Study Class was established (2007). Front restroom finished (2007). The hand of the Lord is still guiding our church.
No history would be complete without informing you of the ministers that were licensed and ordained at our church during the past one hundred plus (100+) years.
